How did MYMAYU get started?
MYMAYU was created out of necessity: a little boy without proper boots wanted to follow his big brother in the rain. Too many puddle jumping sessions had been cut short by face-plants in the water because of clunky rubber boots that were too heavy and made him trip. There had to be a better rain boot. So we designed one and MYMAYU was born.
We believe kids need to play outside and get mucky- in a carefree yet purposeful way. The proper gear means the freedom to wander and get dirty. Dirty kids are happy kids and happy kids mean a happy family. The proper gear also means easier clean-up and easier clean-up means happier parents.
Kids are little people, but not little adults. Their proportions are different and their little bodies grow in proportions that are unique. Kids need lightweight, comfortable and durable footwear and clothes that don't constrict their movement or physical and emotional growth. Outdoor gear for kids needs to fit well so that adventures are not cut short. It also needs to be easily cared for so that parents are not spending precious time cleaning up. MYMAYU designs products with all of this in mind.
MYMAYUmakes quality outdoor gear for kids, big and small, so that the whole family can play and explore outside. Kids can have the freedom to trek through mud, roll around in the sand, jump in puddles and immerse themselves in nature with proper footwear and apparel. With our gear, parents can focus on the experience of playing outside with and being a part of nature with their kids.
Childhood is fleeting and our mission is to outfit kids in quality gear so that the whole family can be nurtured by nature and the wonders of the outdoors.
How are MYMAYU boots different from conventional boots?
MYMAYU boots are different from other outdoor boots currently on the market in several ways.
What is the sole made of?
MYMAYU soles are made of a non-toxic, BPA-free, PVC-free and phthalate-free synthetic rubber. The thickness and flexibility of the sole provides maximum protection and durability, while not impeding the natural physical abilities of your child.
Kids love them because they feel like a rubber slipper rather than a heavy, clunky boot. The rubber is also very grippy because it is so soft and flexible.
The upper of the boots is constructed with waterproof textile. Depending on the style, the textile is either two or three layers. The upper material helps kee the water out, yet lets your child's foot and leg breathe more than traditional rubber boots. Because it does not have a lining, they dry super fast and do not provide a breeding ground for mould or bacteria.
Currently, our boots are made for kids aged approximately 9 months to 9 years. Our largest size fits up to a Youth 3. Do you have an older child and want a pair of MYMAYU boots? Let us know! We are developing larger sizes for older kids and adults and we would love your suggestions and comments. Contact us at service@MyMayu.com for more information.
Many children like to go barefoot- period. MyMayu boots can certainly be worn with or without socks- but some kids find that bare feet can cause blisters. We are huge fans of lightweight wool socks for most of the year and then thicker wool socks with or without a pair of our Helios Liners for the colder months and snow.
We have not obtained any official temperature rating for MYMAYU boots. It is our belief that parents and kids will be able to gauge how and when to wear the boots with a sock and/or our Helios fleece liners. Check out our blog post on winter use!
Depending on where you live, MYMAYU boots can be worn all year long. Layer them with a Helios liner and they can be worn in colder temperatures and snow.
MYMAYU Explorer, Trekker, Traveller and Wanderer boots are made with 3-layer waterproof, breathable textile uppers and a rubber sole. The seams of the upper shaft have some glue or tape to help prevent water seeping through seams. To help keep feet dry, wool socks and/or our fleece liners really do the trick! PLUS, MYMAYU boots dry in about 15-20 minutes over an air vent and only take an hour or so in the sun. Regular rubber boots stay wet for days- if they ever dry- causing a breeding ground for bacteria and mould- ick! Another great thing is that the textile upper on MYMAYU boots does not split like regular rubber boots. Using textile spray regularly helps keep the upper in tip-top shape. As with any waterproof textile, the waterproof coating can degrade over time, so using the spray helps to rejuvenate that coating and keep your boots in great shape for as long as possible. Please do keep in mind that MYMAYU boots are not vulcanized rubber boots or waders and thus they will not reasonably be able to function like rubber boots or waders in deeper puddles and streams. They are a rubber and textile product and we do not guarantee 100% waterproof construction.
MYMAYU Muddy Munchkins boots are made with 2-layer waterproof textile uppers and rubber soles, but they do not have the added tape or glue on the sewing seams. What does this mean? While they are great for outdoor play, if worn in wetter, rainy conditions it is likely that a bit of water will seep in the boot through sewing seams. To help keep feet dry, wool socks and/or our fleece liners really do the trick in all weather conditions!
MYMAYU Explorer boots and wrist gaiters are currently made in Mexico. We strive to make the highest quality product at a price that parents can afford. We chose to manufacture in Mexico in order to reduce our environmental footprint as much as possible. We have a close relationship with the people who make our products and monitor all stages of production to ensure that everyone along the supply chain is being treated fairly and being paid a fair and living wage.
MYMAYU Wanderer, Trekker and Traveller boots are imported from China. Again, we work closely with our factory to ensure that we only provide you with quality products that meet our standards. We are also dedicated to ensuring that a positive and healthy work environment for the workers is maintained and that they are paid fair wages.
Our Helios Liners are made in Canada.
Our textile spray is also made in Canada.

MYMAYU boots are designed with a large toe box for freedom of movement of kids' toes and generally accommodate Helios Liners. However, if your child is very close to wearing the next size up and you plan on using the liners often, you may wish to order the next size. The Wanderer boots tend to accommodate the liners better than the Explorer model.
As mentioned, the liner will fit nicely when your child is wearing the right size. However, if your child is very close to the next size and you think he or she will be wearing the liners more often than not, we suggest going up a size. The liners do stretch, so you might also keep this in mind.
The liners do not have a left and right.
Our Helios liners are made with care in Vancouver, Canada. The Muddy Munchkins liners were made with care in Mexico. We strive to bring our customers high quality products at an affordable price. We have a close relationship with our factories in Mexico and Canada and believe that manufacturing in these places minimizes our carbon footprint as much as possible.
Visit our sizing and care page and print out the sizing chart we have created to help you determine the right size for your child. If you think that your child will most often be wearing a thick sock and a Helios liner with the boot, you might consider moving up one size.
We understand fat feet! Little kids have wider feet than big kids or adults and we kept this in mind when making the soles of our Explorer and Wanderer boots. The Wanderer boots fit wider than the Explorer boots.
Our boots are made to fit a range of kids sizes. To find the best fit for your child, we recommend that you print out our sizing chart.
The medium sized boot measures 25cm (9.5 in) from the bottom of the sole to the top of the upper.
The circumference of the medium sized upper measures 27cm (10.5 in) at its widest point.
